WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS TO ME----by Mary Baker Eddy

Human doctrines or hypotheses or vague human philosophy afford little divine effulgence, deific presence or power. Christmas to me is the reminder of God's great gift,--His spiritual idea, man and the universe,--a gift which so transcends mortal, material, sensual giving that the merriment, mad ambition, rivalry, and ritual of our common Christmas seem a human mockery in mimicry of the real worship in commemoration of Christ's coming.
I love to observe Christmas in quietude, humility, benevolence, charity, letting good will towards man, eloquent silence, prayer, and praise express my conception of Truth's appearing.
The splendor of this nativity of Christ reveals infinite meanings and gives manifold blessings. Material gifts and pastimes tend to obliterate the spiritual idea in consciousness, leaving one alone and without His glory.

Carol of the Bells

EXTREME Lake Effect Snow Blizzard in Michigan!

This "kid" wants snow for Christmas!

What is it about snow at Christmas?? I mean, when Jesus was born, I doubt there was any snow around Bethlehem!! But it is ingrained in us, "White Christmas" "Jingle Bells", etc. As a child, I was happy with Christmas without snow because there were other "fun" things to occupy my time and my mind. But now that I am not a child (on the outside) my inner child longs to see snow. And a LOT of it! My husband, son and I moved thousands of miles to live in "snow country". We originally wanted to live in Vermont but couldn't find a place to live there, so we had to settle for Massachusetts, but only FIVE MINUTES AWAY FROM VERMONT!! When we first moved up here, you were pretty much guaranteed a white Christmas and sometimes snow up to your knees! Here it is, Dec. 21st, it's snowing like crazy everywhere, including, I heard, Morocco!! But this kid living on a MOUNTAIN in NEW ENGLAND can't get her wish the only present that she wants or even can get!!! SNOW!! I would love to see it snow coming down, swirling around, and I don't care if it's up to my knees. I know we will eventually get real snow. What we have right now is about 1" of snow on the ground, which to me, living here in the mountains of New England, is very WHIMPY!!!
What's more disheartening is when you say to the cab driver or anyone in this town, oh I think it's going to snow, or, "I hope we have snow for Christmas!" They all whine and say "Ohhh, I hope we DON'T!!!" These are the very people with their NEGATIVE PRAYERS that are keeping the snow away from here!!! LOL! I really BELIEVE it! Even Dr. Wayne Dyer says, "What you think about, expands!" I'm thinking about snowfall hoping it will "expand" while working against me is probably more than 100 people thinking about NO SNOWFALL which seems to be expanding!!! Last night I looked on the radar, there was a storm off the coast of Massachusetts that had bands like you see on a hurricane! A GUARANTEED NOR'EASTER! Saw videos of a man in Cape Cod, bragging with his video camera, "We're having a blizzard!" "We have at least a foot of snow on the ground!!" The "snow bands" were sweeping right TOWARDS us!! No way this one was going to miss us, right?? Ha! ha!! Finally I was able to get my childlike excitement down and go to sleep. Before that, I played music that was titled "Snowfall" and "Snowdance" and mentally pictured the snow coming down and swirling all around me! I pictured myself grabbing a tube or anything and going sliding down a hill! I pictured myself ice skating outdoors with snow coming down. And then I thanked God for snow. I thought, "Well, certainly when I wake up, it will be snowing and a lot of snow on the ground!" HA!!! I wake up this morning and what do I see? NOTHING. Just grey skies. I can't describe to you how unbearable this is for me. It's like an itch that you can't scratch!! I am restless. I'm driving my husband and my pets mad, because I don't have snow to play in! lol As I get older on the outside, the child inside of me wants to come out and play!! We don't have a car so we can't DRIVE to where the snow is. We don't have spending money to go to a ski resort that's just down the road to go tubing!! (BUT THEY HAVE SNOW BECAUSE IT'S COLD ENOUGH TO STICK!!) They are steady making snow!! Isn't it sad that people have to pay to play in it?? I told my husband, I think I would like to get a snow-making machine!! I mean, they've finally come out with the technology to MAKE SNOW! He laughes at me, an almost "you're insane" laugh. Yes I'm most likely insane! So what?
I'd say 90% of the people around here are insane! I should fit right in! But wouldn't it be so fun to have one of those machines. When I lived in the hot southeast where it wouldn't snow, even if you had a snow making machine, I was restless. Only if it snowed did I feel a sense of relief. So I decided I wanted to live WHERE IT SNOWS IN WINTER. My family wanted to go, too. (Maybe if someone had paid my way to go to a ski resort, I wouldn't have forced them to come with me! LOL!). My sister and her husband would go skiing up in the mountains. Goody, goody for them, must be nice! But here, Marlene finally makes it to New England, perhaps, only MY dream and not my family's. Perhaps I am being punished for being so selfish.
That COULD be it...? I don't know. But it snows ALL AROUND US except here!! Explain that?? I can't even get the weatherman to admit it's kind of WEIRD! Okay.....I've accepted my lot in life. Inside of me there's a little child that wants to play in the snow, get AWAY from apartment living, go up in the mountains and commune with God all day. The walls in this apartment are so thin, you can hear when someone sneezes or passes gas. That's pretty pathetic. I know I should be grateful to have a roof over my head. So many people are homeless, but for some weird reason, I wouldn't mind having a tent IN THE SNOW. One of those Cabella tents where you can put a wood stove in them. You can live all winter, IN THE SNOW, in one of those suckers and NOT BE AROUND ANNOYING PEOPLE 24/7!!
Okay, now I have bored you all to death, with my wishes and childish dreams!! lol! If you kind of like me, or if you love me or even if you hate me, will you do JUST ONE FAVOR, for me?? WILL YOU PLEASE PRAY FOR IT TO SNOW AT LEAST 1FOOT OR MORE IN CLARKSBURG, MA BEFORE CHRISTMAS?? You will make a little child happy, and her poor husband won't have to listen to her whine about NOT having snow. Poor man. I bet he regrets marrying me now! LOL!
LOVE YOU ALL! MERRRY CHRISTMAS!! AND I MEAN CHRIST-MASS! I COULD GO ON ABOUT THAT ONE WHERE PEOPLE SAY X-MAS! But that's a topic for another time!!!
ARENT' YOU GLAD???!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my Flickr friends!

We always have an unusual tree! This year the tip of the tree is WAY above the body of the tree so the star is WAY up there! lol! But... I guess the star SHOULD be higher! We have the "twinkiling" c-7 kind of lights. We tried miniature lights one year and it just wasn't the same!! So we stick with the clear multicolored twinkling C-7 lights! Traditionalists I guess. Probably if I want replacement "twinkling" C-7s I will have to special order them. I don't see them ANYWHERE in stores!! :-( Merry Christmas everyone! Peace on Earth, Good Will to ALL MANKIND!

One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village.
He worked in a carpenter shop until he was about thirty.
He then became an itinerant preacher.
He never held an office.
He never had a family or owned a house.
He didn't go to college.
He had no credentials but Himself.

After preaching three years, the public turned against Him.
His friends ran away.
He was turned over to His enemies and went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
While He was dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing, the only property He had on earth.
He was laid in a borrowed grave.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone,
and today He is the central figure of the human race.
All the armies that ever marched,
all the navies that ever sailed,
all the parliaments that ever sat, and
all the kings that ever reigned
have not affected the life of man on the earth as much as that ONE SOLITARY LIFE.

These woods were so beautiful one Autumn afternoon here in Massachusetts, I just gasped at the beauty. I felt God's presence with us and a peace came over me that I can't describe. Truly this is what the Native Americans must have felt when they looked at God's creations all around them. No roads, no buildings, no shopping malls or urban sprawl, just Gods beauty laid out before them. They knew how to live WITH the land, not try to conquer it. I wish America still looked this way, EVERYWHERE!! We must preserve our woodlands. If we don't wildlife will take over where we don't want them to. I think I wouldn't mind living Native American style. Close to God's creatures and no light pollution to block out the stars! Please remember to help protect America's forests.

Fully opened on 9-11. I nearly cried. What a beautiful symbol!!

In the spring, the flower pot had dirt in it and I KNEW the Easter lily bulb was buried under that dirt. I took it outside when the weather got warm and put some fresh soil in it and gave it some fertilizer and watered it regularly. It came up and throughout the summer got taller and taller. I was amazed. And then the night before 9-11-2010, it started opening!!! On 9/11 it was in full bloom. Tell me this wasn't a sign from God. I am a person that believes that God talks to us all the time and especially through His creation. I was so humbled when I saw it, I started crying. For awhile I put it on the front porch next to our flag so that passerbys would see it. Then I brought it inside. As of September 13th and now the 14th it is STILL IN FULL BLOOM AND THE FRAGRANCE FILLS OUR APARTMENT.

Other than zoos, the only encounters I have had with big cats is this:
(1) I came face to face with a Bob Cat when I lived in Georgia when I was about 10 or 12 years old. There were still a lot of woods around us, but they were developing a subdivision behind ours. I hated it. I was hoping we would always have wilderness around us. Anyway, I guess the Bob Cat was just as bewildered as I was upon meeting me!
We just stared at each other. I thought at first it was a very HUGE domesticated cat, lol! But I noticed the ear tufts and the tufts around its face and finally he turned and ran in the other direction and that's when I saw his bobbed tail!
We used to have a lot of them around where we lived when I was growing up, but development drove them away. So sad.
(2) I HEARD a Cougar or Mountain Lion roaring or "screaming" when we were camping in the Berkshire mountains of Western Massachusetts!! I think these beautiful cats and all wildlife deserve to have some room for them to still live wild. So sad when they end up in cages in zoos, etc. Man is developing so much, animals are running out of room to live and then the ultimate problem arises when they start encountering humans!
Now I kind of think I know how the Native Americans must have felt when the white man came along!!

Not being near a tv and didn't have the radio on, I didn't know what had happened and had just woke up. I went to the contact station at the campsite and one of the campground workers had his computer on streaming live pictures of the towers burning and people yelling in I think it was arabic. I looked at him and said "Who is that talking??" He said "We're under attack!!!" Not having coffee and just woke up, it seemed very surreal to me. Then he showed me the photos on the computer of the twin towers and then he told me the Pentagon had been hit. I was in total shock. And, yes, like today up here. It was gorgeous, beautiful September morn. Who would have thought. Those planes flew over us on their way to each site, I think. Really makes you think.

She's got a lot of black and silver in her - making you think of royalty when you see her. She also has some peach coloring ... very very pretty.

She's sweet, loving, and playful! Purrrrfect kitty!

The Farmer's Almanac says we're supposed to have a bitterly cold winter here in the Northeastern USA, but I will believe it when I see it! lol
Today here in Western Massachusetts, we were only a few degrees cooler than Georgia!! Incredible!!

Early Autumn??

August 25,2010 Wednesday

Today has been mostly overcast. The last few days have been very blustery! Very high winds and rain. A few days ago David and I took a walk and were astonished to see that the trees look like they are starting to turn colors ALREADY! And August isn't even over with! Especially on the mountains, you can faintly see some subtle color changes!! Which begs the question: Are we in for a historically early fall? A contact of mine on Flickr that lives in Australia said that their willow trees are already starting to leaf out, one month early!! Australia is having THEIR SPRING EARLY, wonder if our fall will be early? And what will the winter ahead be like?? I wonder if it will be shorter?? More snow, but earlier and over earlier?? David and I have been discussing this and it makes me think that since it's the tilt of the earth that changes the seasons...perhaps that "tilting" is happening at a more rapid pace? And if this is true, why? What could be causing it? This, I don't think has anything to do with global warming, but more with the rotation and tilt of the earth. I wonder if any scientists have mentioned anything about this. I will have to look it up and see! Seems like as David and I get older, we do THINK more about things that most people don't when they are very busy. Thoughts that perhaps, scientists think about!
It will be interesting to see if anybody else mentions noticing this!

About Me

My photo
I can be very social, but then a recluse. I like my privacy when I'm working in my flower garden. I like to meditate there with God and the birds and the flowers. I love animals, all God's creatures and I can't stand people that abuse them! I strongly urge anyone that wants a pet to adopt from your local animal shelter. There are many loving animals that are at shelters waiting for a loving home. You can find me most of the time on Flickr where I have a photostream!
